A new systematic evaluation approach of On-Demand Logistics solutions

In the framework of the EU-funded LEAD project, Molde University College and TRElab members wrote On-Demand Logistics: Solutions, Barriers, and Enablers, published in the Special Issue Smart City Logistics Services and Sustainability on the journal Sustainability.

The urban freight sector provides an essential service by delivering goods that are required by shops, companies, and households at a specific place and time. However, the growth of e-commerce and the dawn of on-demand logistics (ODL) have raised citizens’ expectations of logistics systems, further stressing them and thereby increasing their operational and environmental costs.

The paper provides an extensive literature review of ODL solutions by focusing on their enablers and barriers. Moreover, it analyses the role of external factors in influencing ODL. Finally, it provides suggestions for policy prioritisation, according to the forementioned external factors.
